MOTOR ENGINEERS
TWO-DAY COURSE BEGUN A two-day course for part-time teachers of motor engineering and for apprentice motor mechanics opened on Monday at the Christchurch Technical College. About 30 persons from all parts of the South Island attended. The course was run by the Education Department in- conjunction with the New Zealand Motor Trades Certification Board. The instructors were drawn from all technical schools in the South Island. They are mostly employed part-time in evening classes. The course chairman was Mr R. Hynes, senior inspector of post-primary schools; and the deputy-chairman, Mr H. H. Murphy, technical organiser for the Motor Trades Certification Bohrd. Mr R. A. Keir was the course administrator. Yesterday subjects dealt with included registers and records; apprentice training and its relation to the Nev/ Zealand Motor Trade Certification Board; the New Zealand Trade Certification Board, and the New Zealand Apprenticeship Committee. Speakers included Messrs Hynes, Murphy, H..H. Crump, and W. E. Mclndoe, head of the engineering department of the Southland Technical College. Subjects' dealt with on Monday included teaching techniques, the day training sylla- , bus, and the theory lessons. Speakers . were Messrs Hynes, Murphy, J. David- . son (post-primary schools inspector), I K. Hayr (inspector of schools, Hawke’s (Bay), E. T. Salveson, and W. J. B. Hunter (head of the engineering department, Hamilton* Technical ColI lege).
