IMPROVED WATER SUPPLY
NEW EDGEWARE ROAD STATION
Designed primarily to improve the water supply in the northern part of Christchurch, the new pumping station in Edgeware road, next to the St. Albans swimimng baths, is nearing completion. One well has been sunk and will produce 30,000 gallons of water an hour. Another well, and possibly a third, will be sunk. The suction tank, into which the output of the wells will flow to allow sand and shingle to drop, has been constructed and most of the pipes to link the pumping station with the existing mains in Edgeware road have arrived from Timaru, where they were fabricated. The length of the link is about 400 feet.
The pumping machinery for the new station, which is built in ferro-con-crete, is due to arrive in a few days from England.
