BRITISH RUGBY TEAM’S TOUR
EASY WIN IN FIRST AUSTRALIAN GAME (Rec. 11 p.m.) SYDNEY, Aug. 9. In the first mdtch of their Australian tour the British Isles Rugby team beat Combined Country 47 to 3 at Canberra to-day. Played in bright sunshine, the match, as had been expected, was an easy training run for the visitors. 'lhe British forwards dominated the line-outs and gave their backs plenty ot opportunities. The half-back, G. Rimmer, gave fine service from the scrum, allowing I. Preece to snow his best form. Preece’s dodgy runs paved the way for many tries. The visitors’ fine, open play delighted the crowd. For the British Isles tries were scored by D. W. C. Smith (2). M. C. Thomas (2), J. W. McKay (2), W. B. Cleaver, D. M. Davies, R. E. T. Evans, and Preece. Thomas converted six tries and kicked a penalty goal. Smith converted one trv.
Combined Country’s points came from a penalty goal.
