A DUAL RACECOURSE
Sir, —Centennial year is an apt occasion to consider a proposal that both racing and trotting meetings be held at Riccarton. Addington and Riccarton face gigantic stand expense. Once a new stand is built at Addington, such a proposal becomes a diiiicult problem. It is absurd for racegoers to carry the overhead of maintaining lor a few days’ use two courses each with expensive buildings, totalisator machinery, tracks, staff and general maintenance. Addington could be used for baaly needed home-for-lunch residential sites. With all meetings at Riccarton. profit could provide a beautiful super course with every convenience for inside and outside patrons in this era of democracy. Experts would have no great problem in planning and adjusting a dual course with adjoining or common straights. Competent administrators control the clubs affected. Town planning, progress, and vision all suggest that now is the time for decision.—Yours, etc.. CENTENNIAL. August 8. 1950.
