OBITUARY

MR WILLIAM LINTOTT

Mr William Lintott, who was associated with brass bands over a long period, died recently in Rangiora.

A son of Mr William Lintott, of Springston, Mr Lintott first took up band work at Leeston and later moved to Kaiapoi, where he joined the local band, being a member for 29 years. For many years he was honorary secretary and treasurer of the Kaiapoi Band, and was elected an honorary life member.

Mr Lintott moved to Rangiora in 1934, and joined the Rangiora Brass Band. He was chairman of the management committee of the band for a number of years. Mr Lintott played several instruments and won a solo competition at Rangiora on the double bass.

Mr Lintott studied dairy management under his stepfather, Mr Leggett, who had a large dairy farm at Springston, and was later with Mr John Boag, of “Middlerigg,” Brookside, for three years. He received his first appointment with the Central Dairy Company at Selwyn, and later he moved to Irwell. In 1906 he was transferred to the Kaiapoi creamery. Mr Lintott was a keen church worker and for many years was secretary and treasurer of the Kaiapoi Methodist Sunday School. He was a member of the church choir and the church orchestra. CAPTAIN J. W. Pring, for many years an officer end later master in ships of the New Zealand Shipping Company and the Federal Lino, died in Sydney on Wednesday, according to private cabled advice received in Auckland to-day. He was marine superintendent in Australia for the New Zealand Shipping Company. Joining the Federal Line as a cadet. Captain Pring was in the service of Ihat line and the associated New Zealand Shipping Company all his sea career. Captain Pring is survived by his wife and daughter. MR A. C. MITCHELL (New Zealand Press Association) WELLINGTON, July 5. The death has occurred of Mr A. C. Mitchell, aged 76. a former president of the New Zealand Employers’ Federation. He was a consulting engineer and director of several firms. Mr Mitchell was vice-president of the federation for 16 years and president from 1930 to 1935. SIR FREDERICK TOUT MELBOURNE. July 5. The death has occurred of Sir Frederick Tout, president of the Bank of New South Wales and a director of the A.M.P. Society and many other Australian companies. He was a member of the Legislative Council of New South Wales for several years, and was a consultant of the Commonwealth Government at the Imperial Economic Conference in Ottawa in 1932. ADMIRAL P H. HALLTHOMPSON (N.Z. Press Association —Copyright) LONDON, July 6. Admiral Percival Henry HallThompson died to-day at Hythe (Kent), at the age of 76. He was Inspector of War Stores at Sydney from 1900 to 1903. He was naval adviser to the New Zealand Government from 1914 to 1919. During the First World War he was also in command of the cruiser Philomel, New Zealand Station. From 1923 to 1926 Admiral Hal 1 - Thompson was lent to the Australian Government as First Naval Member of the Royal Australian Naval Board.

Miss Liane Robson arrived by air last Wednesday to take over the position of Elizabeth Arden’s Representative at Beath’s. She is replacing Miss Mary Sparkes, who has filled the position with efficiency and charm, and who will return to London next week by air. Miss Robson has had considerable experience in giving treatments in Elizabeth Arden’s London and Paris Salons, and on journey to New Zealand spent some time at Colombo, where she also gave advice and treatments.
