CHRISTCHURCH WEST HIGH SCHOOL

BOARD OF MANAGERS MEETS

Regret at the resignation of Mr D. G. Grant was expressed at the monthly meeting of the Christchurch West High School Board of Managers last evening. The board congratulated Mr Grant, who was a foundation member of the school’s teaching staff, on his recent appointment as rector of the Southland Boys’ High School, A letter was received from the Education Department refusing financial assistance in repairing the asphalt yard. The secretary (Mr P. J. Halligan) explained that the department was liable only for amounts exceeding £2OO, such amounts being classed as capital expenditure. This, said the secretary, had led to the development of a spending policy of “either over £2OO or as little as possible.” It was decided to instruct an architect to supply the board with detailed plans for proposed extensions to the workshop building.
