NAVY LEAGUE
WOMEN’S AND JUNIOR BRANCHES During the last year, the women’s branch of • the Navy League contributed £5O towards the Canadian visit of sea cadets and £lOO to the general sea cadet fund, and it also sent parcels of wool and clothing to the boy and girl sponsored .by the branch under the Save the Children Fund and to the Friendly Union of Sailors’ Wives in England. In addition, members entertained officers and men of naval vessels that visited Lyttelton, helped in the sale of health stamps and in various street appeals, and visited naval personnel in the hospitals and sanatorium. To raise money for carrying out its patriotic and welfare work, the branch organised many successful gatherings, including a garden party, a coin party, a jumble sale, and sales of goods. These details are given in the thirty-third annual report of the branch to be presented at the annual meeting next week. The junior branch of the Navy League, in its nineteenth annual report. records an increase in membership of 32 during the year. The branch gave £lOO to the sea cadets and sent a cheque and parcels of food and clothing to its sponsored child, who lives at Stepney Green. London. Members of the junior branch will be hostesses this year at two of the- Navy League luncheons, which have been revived by the women's auxiliary. They helped with street appeals and in all activities undertaken by the women’s auxiliary and raised money for their work in various ways, including a very successful ball at which Captain H. ‘ Ixwegrove, R.N., and Mrs T nvpgrovp.
