TRAMS
Sir, —Once again the passengers on trams and revenue are less. After travelling on them, I don't think the trains are so terrible. In Sydney, which is a lot different from this town, the authorities have placed orders for trams. The public think buses are quicker but they are not quicker to dispatch and the trams carry the loads. Recently the Tramway Board asked for a sinking fund of £20.000 for worn-out buses, so you see they are not reliable either. The council is still talking about taking ' over. Will it be any better? The council, too. has enough on its hands, so I hope the Loans Board will consider the ratepayers’ money and not grant the loan. I think the board should try to economise a little and the trains should pay lor themselves.—Yours, etc ■ T R. WILLIAMS. June 2, 1950.
