AUCKLAND WOOL CHEQUE

INCREASE OF •£2,500,000 THIS SEASON

(New Zealand Press Association) AUCKLAND. May 31. A record cheque of more than £6,500.000 was realised from wool sold at auction in Auckland during the current season. Although the number of bales sold increased by only 3520, proceeds increased by more than £2,500,000 compared with the previous season’s figure.

The higher level of wool prices throughout the season is reflected m the average price per lb. which increased by 13Ad to slightly more than 3s. A total of £6,558,489 was realised for the 128,530 bales sold, compared with £3,994.259 for 125.010 bales m the 1948-49 season. The weight of wool sold was 43.602,4161 b. the average price a bale being. £5l 0s 6d, and the average price per lb 36.1 d. In the previous season Auckland averages were £3l 18s lOd a bale and 22.65 d per lb. _________
