CLASSIFICATION OF ROADS

NEW REGULATIONS FROM TO-DAY

(New Zealand Press Association.) WELLINGTON. May 31

The classification of roads throughout New Zealand under the 1940 Heavy Motor Vehicle Regulations ended to-day. So far only 11 local authorities have had Ministerial approval of classifications under the new regulations. When these have been advertised, probably to-morrow in some cases, load limits under the new regulations may be legally enforced. All other roads are in -effect unclassified as from to-morrow. Until the new classifications are approved, loads on those roads will be limited only by the Transport Act. This fixes a maximum gross load of 10 tons for a twoaxled vehicle and a maximum axle load ot six tons for multi-axled vehicles. These are higher than the limits on classified roads under the old regulations
