MISS Z. HUDSON HONOURED

Miss Zoe Hudson, New Zealand women’s golf champion, was the guest of honour at an afternoon party held by members of the Christchurch Ladies' Golf Club at Shirley yesterday, Miss Hudson, who, besides being Dominion champion, holds the Canterbury provincial championship, the championship of the Christchurch Ladies’ Golf Club and several other titles, will leave Christchurch next Wednesday for Wellington on the first stage of her journey to Queensland, where she will play in the Tasman Cup team against Australia, the present holder of the cup. “We wish you good luck, good putting, and good driving,” said Miss M. Beadel (captain of the club). “During the war, when all major golf tures were cancelled, we were very sorry for Miss Hudson.” continued Miss. Beadel. “We felt she was being deprived of her chance of showing what a good golfer she is; but we need not have worried; she has since made up for lost time.” Mrs M. H. Godby (president of the club), on behalf of members, presented Miss Hudson with a mohair travelling rug. and on behalf of the week-end players with a leather' note case and a posy of flowers. Miss Hudson, who was accompanied by her mother and her sister. Miss K. Hudson, gratefully acknowledged the good wishes and gifts.

Miss Hudson, Miss Vqlmai Fleming, and Miss Kathleen Rutherford will leave Wellington on Thursday next by the Wanganella on their way to Brisbane, where they will play in the Australian ladies’ golf championship at the Royal Queensland golf club’s course. They received many good wishes yesterday from their club mates. The present holder of the championship. Miss P. Borthwick (Sydney), and the runner-up. Miss M. Bishop (Perth), are both now in England, and will not return in time for Miss Borthwick to defend her title.

The tournament in Brisbane opens on June 19, but the first two days will be taken up with inter-State matches, in which the New Zealanders will not take part. For the championship, two qualifying rounds will be played, with 16 players to qualify. Four rounds of match play follow.

The Tasman Cup match will be played on June 28. Members of the New Zealand team are Miss Hudson, Mrs Ball (formerly Miss Jean Horwell), now of Wanganui, Mrs P. Murray (Miramar). Miss R. Hodges and Miss M. Hughes (both of Auckland), and Mrs G. W. Hollis (manager). The New Zealanders expect to arrive back in Wellington by the Monowai on July 11.
