A report on the progress made in the plans for this day was given yesterday at a meeting of the committee. The use' of Riccarton racecourse for a day in January has been sought. A birthday cake is to be made, and .ingredients are at present being Apllected for it. When baked, it will oe assembled on a lorry and iced in position. The cake will have 100 candles, which will be lit by the children. It is also hoped to have one or two more maypoles, where the children will dance. The committee recommended that town and country teachers be asked to give their pupils some instruction in the maypole dance. Arrangements are being made for a special area along Park terrace tc be set aside for children to see the floral procession to be held in February. The children will be given bouquets and garlands of flowers. It was hoped that responsibility for the care of the children would be taken by teachers’ ascociations and by the Education Board, said the chairman of the committee (Miss Mary McLean). On behalf of the Country Hostessing Sub-Committee, Mrs W. Deans reported that the sub-committee had arranged for trips to be made to various parts of Canterbury on Tuesday of each week during- the celebrations. In this way visitors to Christchurch would be able to see places of scenic and historic interest. A member of the Hostessing Sub-Com-mittee would go on each trip, Mrs Deans said. It was decided that steps be taken to secure a permanent address for the City Hostessing Sub-Committee, where information could be given to visitors to the city. It was suggested that an information bureau might be set up in Cathedral square.
