An increase in the number of births is shown in the vital statistics for May, issued by the Registrar of Births Deaths, and Marriages. Christchurcn (Mr A. A. Besley). The figures for Ma”. 1950. with those for May, 1949, in parenthesis, are as follows:--births. 362 (320): deaths. 160 (161); marriage notices. 124 C. 29); marriages by registrar. 27 (36). The figures for the first five month', with those for the same period last year in parenthesis, are:—births. 1737 (1724); deaths. 718 (632); marriage notices. 809 (787); marriages by registrar, 158 (154).
