HEALTH SCHEME IN AUSTRALIA

OPPOSITION FROM CHEMISTS MELBOURNE, May 30. Although the British Medical Association has approved, without amendment. the scheme of the Minister of Health (Sir Earle Page) for subsidised medical insurance, chemists are still in opposition.

The Federal president of the Pharmaceutical Service Guild (Mr E. Scott) said that the agreement of the doctors did not mean that the chemists would change their views. They would continue to fight alone, if necessary.

The main point to which the chemists object is control of the scheme by institutions such as friendly societies. The chemists believe that this would lead to the establishment of large low-grade cut-rate dispensaries to the exclusion of family chemists.
