HOTEL HOURS

Sir, —The “simple explanation” that the manager of the Franz Josef Hostel gives does not in my opinion meet the case. The bar doors were closed and locked. The office was also closed and locked. I was also at this hotel at 1.30 p.m. on April 20, and my inquiries for a drink were greeted with, “Oh, the bar probably won’t be open until 4 p.m.” To keep a bar open after 6 p.m. is an offence. It should also be an offence to shut it during the legal opening hours; in a Govern-ment-controlled hotel strict observance of the law should be a No. 1 priority.—Yours, etc., CURIOUS. May 8, 1950. [This letter was referred to the manager of the Franz Josef Hostel, but no reply has been received.]
