BALLOTS NECESSARY FOR ELECTION OF OFFICERS From Our Own Reporter GREYMOUTH. May 30. The president of the State Miners’ Union of Runanga (Mr G. E. English), who has been elected unopposed for the last three or four years, is opposed this year by Mr R. H. Mitchell, who contested the Westland seat at the last General Election as an official Communist candidate. Ballots will be taken at the Strongman and Liverpool mines next week for the election of officers. Nominations are:—president, Messrs English and Mitchell. Executive (five required), Messrs R. Nelson, F. G. Thompson, R. J. Smith. H. Pattinson, A. Shaw, F. Avery, H. Wilson. F. Baxendale. Checkweightman (Liverpool), Messrs F. Baxendale and H. Peters. Check inspector (Liverpool), Messrs J. Browne and A. Warwick. Check inspector (Nine Mile), Mr J. Harrington (unopposed). Deputy-check inspector (Nine Mile), Mr R. H Mitchell (unopposed). Trustees, Messrs J. McPhee and C. Kennedy (unopposed). Secretary, Mr J. Guy (unopposed).
