DAMAGED LONDON CHURCH

SYDNEY. May 30. The Sydney City Council is considering a proposal that the wardamaged London Church of St. Mary the Virgin should be rebuilt in Sydney. Senator J. P. Tate, who is an aiderman of the council, said that the transfer had been suggested by Mr W. H. Lober, a member of the Anglican Synod, after a recent visit to London. The church, which was an outstanding example of Wren architecture. would not be rebuilt in London. It was still in good condition, and was suitable for transfer. The London County Council was prepared to advise on demolition. The American authorities were arranging for the transfer of one or more of six historic Wren churches damaged during the war, and which would not be rebuilt

Guards Rehearse Parade.—Thousands of Londoners watching the first full dress rehearsal of Trooping the Colour on the Horse Guards’ Parade to-day, saw a colonel thrown from his horse, and two guardsmen faint. The ceremony attracted the biggest crowd for many years. While the parade was awaiting the arrival of the King’s carriage the first guardsman fainted. A moment later a second fell. The colonel, who was thrown by his horse, which shied when the massed bands began to play, fell heavily, but he was able to walk from the square unaided.—London, May 29.
