HIGHLAND FEUD ENDED

LONDON. May 28. A handshake between a kilted Highland chief and a Scottish war veteran has ended a 258-year-old clan feud. Since the Campbells fell upon their inveterate enemies, the Macdonalds, in the massacre of Glencoe in 1692, there had been hate between the clans, but to-night the Duke of Argyll, Chief of the Clan Campbell, held out the hand of friendship to 73-year-old Mr John Macdonald, a direct descendant of the massacred branch of the clan, at the Duke’s ancient home. Inverary Castle. Mr Macdonald and the Duke met at a reunion of 1914-18 war veterans of the Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders, held at Inverary Castle.
