TEST OF GUIDED MISSILE

ONE TO BE FIRED AT U.S. WARSHIP (Rec. 7.30 p.m.) WASHINGTON, May 26. The United States Navy is planning to turn its newest weapon—the guided missile—against one of its own vessels to find out whether giant rockets can sink a warship. Officials, who refused the use of their names, disclosed the project to-night, but declined to say when or where the experiment will be staged. They indicated that the target ship might be the 13.000-ton aircraftcarrier Independence, which served as one of the “guinea pigs” for the Bikini atomic/bomb tests.
