AUSTRALIAN ANTI-COMMUNIST BILL
Sir. —The final sections of the act to ban the Australian Communist Party are not merely confined to suppress the Communists, but—and this is extremely serious provide extensive cl. :; es ruthlessly to violate every privilege. liberty and right of the Australian working people. Any or;;n s;-i ><'n or person presumably suspected of having associated with or agreed on any point with the Communist Party is liable to be declared, il ri ;hts infringed, and imprisoned. all without trial by jury. The.r fate rests on the jurisdiction of the High Court, restricted to a single judge, whose decision shall be final and’ conclusive. Distinctively fascist, this bill is a complete denial of British democracy and endangers not only opposition to the actions of the Menzies Government but the constitutional right to another General Election and the freedom to vote. Look out! It can happen here, too.—Yours, etc.. P. SWITHIN. May 27, 1950.
