HEAVY AIRCRAFT FOR TOPDRESSING

Sir, —“The Press” to-day reports that the Wanganui provincial executive of Federated Farmers requested £2,000.000 worth of heavy top-dress-ing aircraft from the Government from meat pool funds. Very nice for hill-country farmers there to topdress with other people’s money. The purpose of this pool was, and is. 1 o cushion any future recession of prices, and not to subsidise a minority at the expense of the rest. If meat producers could get up to the value of their total individual contributions in lime and super—well and good—all getting their due. Let private enterprise provide the aircraft. At present prices for wool (and meat) they should be able to say, "Let me stand on my own feet or l.et me like a soldier fall.’—Yours, etc., _ T.A.D. May 26, 1950.
