WINTER COMPETITION The winter tennis competitions were continued at Wilding Park on Saturday. Resu.ts were:— FIRST GRADE Elmwood A v. South Brighton Singles.—C. G. Finney lost to A. R. Cant, 2-6, 3-6; I. H. Johnson lost to S. L. Hale, 4-6, 6-4, 4-6: W. Dickson beat A. D. Atkinson, 2-6, 6-4, 6-1; A. T. Cartwright beat D. S. Minson, 7-5, 6-2. Doubles.—Finney and Cartwright beat Cant and Hale, 1-6, 6-4, 6-3; Johnson and Dickson beat Atkinson and Minson, 6-1, 6Elmwood A won by 4 matches to 2. Avonside v. Canterbury College Singles.—L. Rothel lost to T. K. Dellaway, 6-4, 4-6, 3-6; F. Horgan lost to J. D. Snell, 4-6, 5-7; T. Tyler beat R. Thomas, 7- 6-2; T. Kennedy beat P. Fitzgerald, 6-1, 6-1. Doubles.—Horgan and Kennedy beat Dellaway and Snell, 6-4, 6-2; Rothel and Tyler beat Thomas and Fitzgerald, 6-3, 6-2. Avonside won by 4 matches to 2. South Christchurch v. Elmwood B Singles.—N. Sumner beat J. J. Buchan, 4-6, 7-5, 6-1; Ron Roberts beat C. W. Goodwin. 6-4. 7-5; A. Simpson lost to P. Wilson. 5-7, 6-4, 6-3; Roy Roberts lost to S. D. Bannehr, 7-5, 4-6. 4-6. Doubles.—Sumner and Simpson beat Buchan and Wilson, 4-6, 6-3, 6-3; Roberts and Roberts v. Goodwin and Bannehr. 8- 2-2 (unfinished). South Christchurch won by 3 matches to 2. SECOND GRADE Section I.—Elmwood A beat Linwood A by 8 sets to 6; Phillipstown beat Waimairi by 6 matches to 0; Linwood Avenue beat Canterbury College by default. Section ll.—St. Martins beat Opawa by 4 matches to 2; Avonside Church beat Linwood B by 5 matches to 1; Elmwood B beat South Brighton by 9 sets to 5. WOMEN’S GRADE Linwood beat South Christchurch B by 5 matches to 1; South Christchurch A beat Elmwood by 5 matches to 0.
