N.Z. OFFICERS IN LONDON

ADJUSTMENTS MADE TO SALARIES MR JORDAN’S COMMENT (Acid Zealand Press Association) WELLINGTON. May 26. Stating that he thought that his visit to New Zealand had been well worth while and that he was grateful for what had now been achieved. New Zealand’s High Commissioner in London (Mr W. J. Jordan) had a busy last day in Wellington before sailing in the Waiwera to-night for Lpndon. He had a final interview with the Prime Minister (Mr Holland) and later lunched with the Leader of the Opposition (Mr Fraser) and other old friends in the Labour Party. Referring to the discussions he had had with members of the Government, concerning conditions among his staff in London, Mr Jordan said several matters were attended to last year but there were others that still required attention. He emphasised that the duties of New Zealand officers in London were much greater than in any other country. However, certain adjustments had been made and for that he was grateful, both to the Prime Minister and the Minister of External Affairs (Mr F. W. Doidge), and he had expressed his thanks to both. “Salaries are still below those paid to certain of our staff in Washington,” said Mr Jordan, “and I will not know until I get to London just how satisfactory these adjustments will be to the persons most concerned. Still. I do think that my visit has been well worth while for' that particular purpose, and I am grateful for what has now been achieved.” Mr Jordan also expressed his thanks to those New Zealanders still sending food parcels abroad. They were very welcome, he added, and he would inform the people of the Dominion when parcels were no longer required.
