WAIKATO MINE IDLE

DISPUTE OVER TRUCKER’S PAY (New Zealand Press Association) AUCKLAND. May 26. The Alison mine, one of the biggest in the Waikato coalfield, is idle to-day. after a dispute in which the men are alleged to have told the management that if their claim is not met they wil] strike. This claim is for short-shift pay for one trucker in the Allison No. 1 mine. The management is reported to consider that there is no merit in the claim and that constitutional methods of dealing with it should be followed. It has pointed out there is a disputes committee appointed by the Minister of Labour in the former Government and upheld by the present Government. A stop-work meeting of the men at the Alison mine to-day to consider the dispute lasted until 9.30 a.m., after which they went home.
