The 21 nurses at th? conference are attending lectures on various aspects of public health and are discussing administrative matters. Yesterday morning lectures were given by Mr J. Leslie Will on deformities of the feet, by Dr. E. Needham on medical work in Sweden and England, and by Miss D. E. Edwards, one of the department’s nurses, on public health nursing in England and tuberculosis work in Sweden.

The District Industrial Health Officer (Dr. D. P. Kennedy) gave a talk in the afternoon on the international conference on pneumoconiosis which he attended recently in Australia. The nurses will discuss administrative matters to-day and will also visit a Christchurch tyre factory.

The eighty-first anniversary of the Richmond Methodist Church was celebrated this week. Services last Sunday morning were conducted by the Rev. J. S. Waite, and in the evening by the Rev. R. E. The celebrations were continued on Wednesday with a tea organised by the Ladies’ Guild. On this occasion a talk on the early history of Christchurch illustrated with lantern slides was given by Mr H. W. Beaumont. During the evening, on behalf of the congregations of the Richmond, Shirley, and Marshland Methodist Churches, a cheque was presented to Mr Beaumont, who is leaving for Toronto soon as New Zealand representative to the meetings of the youth department of the World Council of Churches and of the World Council of Christian Education.
