HOMES FOR WAR VETERANS

NELSON OFFER DECLINED (New Zealand Press Association, WELLINGTON. May 25. The purchase of a Nelson property for use as a war veterans’ home is not favoured by the New Zealand Patriotic Fund Board which has. in the past, agreed there should be only two war veterans’ homes in New Zealand, one in the North Island and one in the South Island. The board considered yesterday the offer by the Nelson Provincial Patriotic Council to contribute half the capital cost of establishing a home at Nelson and half the annual maintenance cost. It rejected this proposal and also one that the board's standing committee should consider using the property either as a war veterans’ home or a holiday rest home. Permanent homes planned by the committee are at Okoroire and Christchurch, and. there is to be a temporary home at Timaru.
