Sir,—l would like to draw the attention of old-age pensioners to the following. For an old age pensioner or widow, if either has a boarder, profit is reckoned at 10 per cent, by the Social Security Department. The Taxation Department, however, reckons it at 20 per cent. So if a pensioner charges £2 a week, 8s is reckoned as profit and is liable for taxation (20 per cent.). Thirty shillings to 35s a week was the usual charge for board and lodgings over 12 years ago. Prices have risen double and treble in some
