MERIVALE POSTBOX
Sir. —Will the postal authorities take stops to replace -the postbox at the corner of Carlton Mill and Hewitt's roads, which I believe was removed during the war. The nearest box otherwise on the cityward route is at the corner of Bealey avenue. At peak periods during last year it has been almost impossible to pack another letter into that box. The reinstitution of the postbox at the junction of Carlton Mill and Hewitt’s roads would fulfil a definite need in this thickly-populated district. Another simple improvement would be the alteration of the plates that indicate clearing times of mail, so that the postal official could slide the plate along after he has cleared the box. thus making clear whether a letter has caught the mail. This system is in use in London and doubtless othercountries.—Yours, etc., PHYLLIS CAMPBELL. May 19, 1950. [The chief postmaster. Christchurch, says: “The question of erecting a post-ing-box in the area referred to is under consideration. The writer’s suggestion for an improved clearance plate was read with interest, and has been noted for investigation.”]
