ASIAN TALKS AT BAGUIO

EFFECTIVE ACCORD PROBLEMATICAL LIAISON AGENCY MAY BE CREATED (Rec. 8.30 p.m.) NEW YORK, May 23. International diplomats in Bangkok believe that it will be difficult to obtain effective agreement on important issues at the South-east Asian conference in Baguio, in the Philippines, says the Bangkok correspondent of the “New York Times.” The conference is scheduled to begin on Friday. High-level representatives of all Governments wno will attend the Bag. io conference have been in Bangkok for a session of the United Nations Economic Commission for Asia and the Far East. The correspondent says that, although it is believed by the diplomats that the differing interests of the participating States would make it difficult to icrm a strong organisation at Baguio. some benefit should result from an airing or views and the possible creation of a permanent liaison agency. There is expec.cd to be a tendency on the part of some deiega--1: ns to make the conference into the i anifestation of a un.ted front against Communism. The says that Australia and the Philinpines would like to see the conference agree on milic - peraticn against potential agg: ssffin. but India and S'am are opp -ed to such an agreement. India is ICeved not to be prepared to support military co-operation because of I-. recognition of Communist China I and her consistent policy of neutrality in the cold war. India is also understood to be op- I posed to the oariicipation in the con- ! ierence of the Chinese Nationalist ! Government and the Vietnam regime. > The "New York Times” correspond- ' ent adds that, if the conference isl confined to attempting to arrange co- i operation only in the economic and I cultural spheres, it will duplicate | much of the work being done by United Nations organisations.
