TRACK WORK AT ADDINGTON

TROTTING

COUNTY ANTRIM IN FORM County Antrim, which is one of the favourites for the Winter Handicap, the main event at the Canterbury Park Trotting Club’s meeting on Saturday, gave a dashing display at Addington yesterday morning when, after conceding three seconds’ start to Key master, Lady iViavoui'necn, and Waroonga, he beat them over a mile and a half in 3min Ibsec. Keymaster led from Waroonga and Lady Mavourneen, and L. O. Thomas was content to traij them with County Antrim until about three furlongs from home. When he was allowed to stretch out, County Antrim soon improved his position, and he was always going easily as he covered the last half-mile in Imin ssec. The track was slow, and a strong wind was against fast times being recorded. The trestles were out, and all work was done about four sulky widths from the rails. Systematic and Right Royal, which are G. S. Smith’s representatives in the Winter Handicap, finished in line with Trustee at the end of a mile and a half in 3min 35sec, the last half in Imin ssec, the last two furlongs in 33sec. Systematic and Right Rpyal have both shown winning form this season. The combination should prove popular with investors at Addington on Saturday.

Trustee, which gained his last win when he beat Fortuna, in 2min 41 4-ssec in the Au Revoir Handicap at Hutt Park on March 4, may add to his record in the Final Handicap this week. Flagship, a promising two-year-old from V. Alborn’s stable, covered a mile and a half with Lindy Lou in 3min 26sec, the last half-mile taking Imin Bsec. Flagship, which showed much speed to finish third to Vjvanti and Johnny Globe after breaking at the start of the Oamaru Juvenile Stakes at Oamaru on May 6, has drawn fourteenth position at the barrier in the Juvenile Handicap at the Canterbury Park meeting on Saturday. As the safety limit is 13. Flagship will have to start from the second line unless scratchings reduce the size of the field. Native Royal, an acceptor in the Peninsula Handicap at Addington on Saturday, sprinted the last half-mile of his two miles trial in Imin 9sec. Has Won Five Races Victory Song and Morano sprinted the last four furlongs in Imin 3 4-ssec when covering two miles in 4min 41sec. The winner of five races this season, Victory Song must be conceded a good chance from the scratch mark in the Fendalton Handicap at Addington on Saturday. Morano, which showed a glimpse of his best form when he finished third in the F. G. Plunket Stakes at Camaru on May 13, will have his next race in the Peninsula Handicap at Addington on Saturday. Statesman was too good for Grey Streak at the end of a trial over two miles. The last mile and a half took 3min 20sec, the last half-mile Imin 6sec. Velvet Brown beat Realm Again and Bay Machine at the end of a mile and a half in 3min 32 3-ssec, the last halfmile taking Imin Bsec. A daughter of Dillon Hall and Godetia, Velvet Brown, which has gained two wins and two seconds in her last six starts, may add to her record in the Peninsula Handicap this Carisbrook paced in a bold manner when worked alone by E. A. Berry. On recent form he is entitled to respect whenever he starts. Mamanuas set the pace when working over a mile and a half with Ivondale in Smin 34sec. the last half-mile in Imin 7sec. Ivondale would need to improve considerably on this effort to have a chance in the Addington Handicap at the Canterbury Park Trotting Club's meeting. Merry Man trotted solidly when worked over a mile and a half with Scott Wrack in Smin 37sec, the last four furlongs taking Imin 6sec. Worked Alone Worked alone by A. F. C. Rushton. Bonny Scott covered two miles in 4min 32sec, the last mile and a half taking Cmin 24sec. A consistent performer. Bonny Scott should race well from the scratch mark in the Winter Handicap this week. Scott Junior set the pace when working with Monty Jason over a mile and a half in 3min '26sec, the last half-mile taking Imin 3 4-ssec. Gantree, which looks particularly well, was worked alone over a mile and a half in 3min 22sec. the last half-mile taking Imin Gsec. A place-getter in five of his last six races, Gantree may pay a dividend in the Final Handicap at Addington on Saturday In M. Paul’s Tea hi Suzerain is the latest addition to M. Paul's team at Mangere. A winner when trained at Addington by J. Young, Suzerain is an aged son of Quite Sure and a Sonoma Harvester mare. An aged gelding. Willie Winkie is by Wrack from Lady Vaulsbury. Tantamount, a consistent trotter with ■ record of 13 minor placings in his 16 starts this season, should not be troubled to win the Rahui Handicap at the Otaki Trotting Club’s meeting on Saturday. Once he settles down to trot solidly, Mountain Range should take a much tighter mark. Transferred Gold Strand, which gained two wins and two minor placings when trained earlier in the season by J. B.
