N.Z. SCIENCE CONGRESS
PROFESSOR HUXLEY
INVITED
A distinguished biologist and wellknown author of scientific essays, Professor Julian Huxley, has been invited to attend the New Zealand Science Congress, which will open in Christchurch in May. 1951. The invitation was sent some time ago and it is expected that an answer will be received soon.
Professor Huxley, who was born in 1887. has had a brilliant scientific career He was educated at Eton, where he was a King’s Scholar, and at Balliol College, Oxford, wfeere he ob-. tained a first in zoology and also be-* came a Newdigate Prizeman. He holds the degrees of Master of Arts and Doctor of Science and is a Fellow of the Royal Society.
Since 1946 Professor Huxley has been Director-General of the United Nations Educational. Scientific and Cultural Organisation. Professor Huxley is best known for his expositions of scientific theories, particularly in the field of genetics. His writings include “Essays of a Biologist.” “Essays in Popular Science.” “Religion Without Revelation.” “Uniqueness of Man” and “Evolution.” He recently published a book dealing with the genetical controversy in Russia. He is a brother of the novelist, Aldous Huxley.
It is hoped that Professor Huxley will lecture on evolution if he attends the congress. If he comes he will also be entertained by the New Zealand Genetical Society, which will be holding its annual meeting in Christchurch at the same time.
