NAVAL COMMAND AT AUCKLAND
CAPTAIN A. E. T. CHRISTIE (New Zealand Press Association) WELLINGTON, May 22. The Minister of Defence (Mr T. L. Macdonald) announced to-day that Captain A. E. T. Christie, 0.8. E., D.S.C., R.N., would relieve Captain A. C. A. C. Duckworth, D. 5.0.. D.S.C., R.N., as naval officer in charge, Auckland, towards the end of this year. Captain Christie was born in 1907 and entered the Royal Navy in 1925. He commanded the destroyers Sheldrake, Malcolm, and Enchantress. He was awarded the 0.8. E. in 1941 for skill and determination in towing a damaged ship back to port. In 1942 he was promoted commander, and in 1943, while senior officer. 28th Escort Group, he was awarded the D.S.C. for bravery and skill in the North Africa landings. From 1944 to 1946 he served as a staff officer in Australia. He has"'since served as executive officer of the Illustrious and of the Royal Naval barracks, Devonport. He was promoted to captain at the end of last year.
