N.Z. ORNITHOLOGICAL SOCIETY

OFFICERS ELECTED AT ANNUAL MEETING (New Zealand. Press Association) MASTERTON. May 22. Members from Gore to Auckland attended the tenth annual meeting of the Ornithological Society of New Zealand in Wellington during the weekend. A field excursion was also held at Waikanae. The following officers were elected: president, Mr E. G. Turbott (Auckland); vice-presidents, Professor B. G. Marples (Dunedin) and Mr C. S. Fleming (Wellington); secretary-treasurer, Mr J. M. Cunningham (Masterton'; recorder. Mr H. R. McKenzie (Clevedon); regional organisers, Mr J. C. Davenport (Auckland), the Rev. F. H. Robertson (Hawke’s Bay). Dr. R. A. Falla (Wellington). Mr G. Guy (Christchurch). and Mrs H. S. Tily (Dunedin); editor of bulletin, Mr R. H. D. Stidolph (Masterton). An increase of membership of 484 was reported. The society had instituted a ringing scheme and was compiling a chick list of New Zealand birds. Mr R. B. Sibson. of Auckland, was appointed the society’s representative to attend the International Ornithological Congress at Uppsala, in Sweden, next month. It was decided to adopt the name of “Notornis” for the society’s bulletin.
