DRIED FRUIT IMPORTS
Though licences for the import of Australian currants have been granted to the extent of 110 per cent, of last year’s. Wellington merchants think that in view of the steep price rises the quantity available will be less than last year. Merchants expect also that the ordet for lexias will be cut by the exporters, though to what extent is not yet known. Licences for the importation of sultanas will permit the entry of a slightly larger quantity than last year, but the over-all picture so far as the supply of Australian dried fruits is concerned is not as bright as merchants expected. They are particularly concerned about the position in regard to currants.
