CITY RADIO FIRM CAUSES CONSTERNATION MISTAKES MADE IN BROADCAST When a radio announcer put a commercial over the air on Saturday morning for a local radio firm he unwittingly caused consternation amongst his listeners. From an announcement to people in areas where there were power cuts it was assumed' that there was to be a general power cut in the afternoon. This rumour spread rapidly and the radio station and the M.E.D. were besieged with calls from people anxiously wanting to know what the position was. Then it was also announced that the firm concerned (Messrs Sedley Wells, the well-known radio dealers) were prepared to lend battery sets to any listeners who wanted them free of charge. Soon the telephone number mentioned in the radio commercial was receiving hundreds of calls from people asking for radios on loan Special explanations had to be made pointing out that it was purely a mistake in the radio announcement. The announcer later corrected his error, but the first announcement certainly caused a stir amongst Canterbury listeners. Sedley Wells, however, will be only too pleased to demonstrate their new battery electric portables at your home. With one of these dual-purpose radios vou can listen in at any time irrespective of any power cuts. Sedley Wells will give you all the information on these new sets willingly. Just ring or call at the radio store right opposite Beaths. Advt.
