ARMED FORCES DAY

COMBINED CELEBRATION IN UNITED STATES The United States will observe its first Armed Forces Day to-day Un*il this year the Army. Navy. Marine Corns. Air Force, and Coast Guard have all had their own celebrations on separate days, but this year the Secretarv of Defence (Mr Louis Johnson). with the approval of President Truman, set aside to-day. fhe third Saturday in May. as a day for combined celebrations.

The object is to show the American people the state of their nation’s defence. With this in view the people are being invited to inspect military equipment, naval vessels, aeroplanes, and Army camps which will be thrown open to them under the slogan “Teamed for Defence.”
