COMMENT BY DEAN
(Rec. 11 p.m.) SYDNEY, April 21. Addressing 2000 waterside workers to-day. the Dean of Canterbury (Dr. Hewlett Johnson) said: “It is a damned lie that I said: ‘Let China into Australia.’ ” Dr. Johnson added that he had said that under a condition of controlled economy in the land, “Australia could be enriched if Chinese thinkers and workers could come here.” Red Indian on Hunger Strike.— Jules Sioui. a 43-year-old Huron Indian who has been on a-hunger strike for nearly two months, said to-day that he had petitioned the King to intervene in the case of Canadian Indians to end their “slavery.” Sioui, who began his hunger strike in an attempt to secure recognition of rights he claims for Indians, said he had written to the King because the Canadian Prime Minister (Mr Louis St. Laurent) had paid no attention to him. Sioui said that his fast had been broken only by a pint of sweetened water every day.—Ottawa, April 20.
