FLIGHT COMMANDER MAY BE FAVOURITE Flight Commander, which gave a sterling performance to finish third to Fanciful and Liliaccae in 4min 25 2-ssec after starting from a 4min 40sec mark in the .Manawatu Trotting Cup on the first day lof the Manawatu Trotting Club’s meeting at Awapuni last Saturday, may win the Manawatu Challenge Stakes for three-year-olds on - the concluding day of the 1 meeting to-day. A high-class youngster. Flight Commander has been successful when racing against older horses this season, his record including four wins and four minor placings. Besides Flight Commander, the Manawatu Challenge Stakes field includes other promising youngsters in Te Maru, Court Lady, Laureldale, Petite Yvonne, and Triple Play. A son of Sandydale and Daisy Scott, Te Maru was placed in four of his first five races for the season when trained at Pleasant Point by J. J. Brophy... Te Maru was then transferred to M. Holmes’s team, and for him he showed much ability to finish fourth, to Van Dieman, Preston, and Morano after breaking at the start of the New Zealand Pacing Stakes at the Easter meeting at Addington. Now a member of A. Holmes’s team, Te Maru should be placed in the Challenge Stakes. Laureldale’s record of three wins and. four minor placdfe in his nine starts this season entitles him to respect. Together with Triple Play, Court Lady, and Petite Yvonne, which were placed on the first day of the meeting, he should be handy to Flight Commander and Te Maru at the finish. In A. Holmes’s Team Islaburn Lass, Sandy Ridge, Ascot, Te Maru, and Daisy Bar, which were recently trained by M. Holmes, have been transferred to A. Holmes’s team at Yaldhurst. Islaburn Lass, Ascot, and Sandy Ridge will race at Forbury Park to-day, and Te Maru and Daisy Bar at the Manawatu Trotting Club’s meeting Ashburton R.C. Withdrawals Withdrawals for the trotting events for the first day of the autumn meeting are due on Monday, the 24th instant, at 5 P-m Advt. Westport Meeting Acceptances for the galloping events and withdrawals for the trots for the first day of the Westport Jockey Club’s meeting close with the secretary.
