“BOB-A-JOB WEEK”
EFFORT BY BOY SCOUTS to raise funds
To-day is the start of the Boy Scouts Association’s national “bob-a-job” week, when 21.000 boy scouts, sea scouts, rover scouts, wolf cubs and officers will try to raise needed funds by earning money on odd jobs. The association hopes to earn 100.000 shillings (a target of 5s a boy) for scout funds in New Zealand.
“Bob-a-job” is; a catch phrase, and the association hopes that the boys will give value for the money, but that if the job is worth more than Is. payment will be made accordingly. Each boy will be issued with a card on which particulars of the job done and the money earned will be entered. The card asks that householders give the boy any job he can do and pay whatever the services are thought to be worth.
The boy scouts were .founded 42 years-ago. and since then the movement has been adopted by 49 countries. and the actual membership exceeds 3.500.00 D. In New Zealand there are more than 20 000 members.
