FORCES AGAINST COMMUNISTS
MALAYAN COUNCIL’S PROPOSALS
SINGAPORE, April 19. The Malayan Federal Council to-day passed a resolution asking the British Government to build up and train an anti-terrorist army composed of the peoples of Malaya. This army’ should then be equipped to ‘shoulder the responsibility of restoring peace and security” throughout Malaya. The resolution replaced an earlier one which urged Britain to send more troops to Malaya. To-day’s debate followed the recent announcement of the formation of a “War Cabinet” to end Communist bandit activities in Malaya. The council urged the British Government to proceed urgently to establish control over Malaya’s 300,000 squatters, whose present status aided terrorism. The squatters, mostly immigrants from China, lived on the jungle fringes without police protection and were forced to supply the terrorists with food, money and information about troop movements.
