NEW DIPLOMATIC RELATIONSHIP
CONSUL IN WELLINGTON \ TO BE MINISTER
From Our Own Reporter WELLINGTON, April 19. Direct diplomatic relations are to be established between New Zealand and Italy. The present Italian Consulate in Wellington, where the Consul is Count de Rege, will be raised to the status of a legation. The External Affairs Department announced to-night that the New Zealand Government had indicated that for the time being it was unable for practical reasons to complete the exchange of representatives by establishing a legation in Rome.
