GUBITCHEV TO GO TO RUSSIA
DECISION TO WITHDRAW APPEAL . new YORK. March 15. Valentin Gubitchev, who was recently convicted of espionage, decided to-day to withdraw his appeal and accept deportation to Russia. He was given a suspended sentence od 15 years’ imprisonment on condition that he renounced all right of appeal and accepted deportation. Gubitchev’s latest decision is an abrupt reversal of his announcement yesterday that he would stay in the United States to fight an appeal.
Empire Games Film.—Though it is a week since the film on the Empire Games arrived in England from New Zealand by air, it is still in bond, and no plans have yet been made for its coipmercial distribution. It will be screened in bond before it is accepted and customs duty paid—the normal procedure. No date has yet been named for this screening.—Special correspondent N.Z.P.A., London, March 15.
