DAHLIA SHOW

RECORD ENTRIES RECEIVED

MR J. MURDOCH WINS MAIN AWARD

There was a record number of entries for the dahlia show which opened yesterday at the Caledonian Hall. The president of the Canterbury Horticultural Society (Mr J. R. Templin) said that it was the biggest show he had ever seen. He was amazed M the outstanding quality and wide variety pf the blooms displayed. The weather had been ideal for dahlias, and even the gladioli were of exceUerit quality, which was unusual at this time of the year. The premier bloom and champion of champions was Mr J. Murdoch’s Lena. This giant formal decorative was described. by the judge of the open section (Mr M. J. Barnett) as an almost perfect bloom.

The show will be open again to the public to-day. The following are prize-winners in the various sections of the show:— The Ulva Quarrell challenge trophy, Mrs M. C. Morgan; E. L.
