Arrangements for the visit of Empire Games’ athletes from the United Kingdom and Canada, who are to compete at Timaru from February 23 j to 26, were discussed by representa-. tives of sports organisations in South, Canterbury at a public meeting held at Timaru this evening. The Mayor ; (Mr A. E. S. Hanan) presided. In order to organise appropriate: sports functions a controlling commit-: tee comprising representatives of the seven sports organisations concerned and four others was elected. They were Messrs H. H. Fraser (swimming). T. M. Penning (athletics), N. Ford (cycling). A. Calder (weight-lifting and fencing). M. J. Angland (wrestling). M. P. McKenna (boxing). Miss C. S. McTavish, and Messrs S. S. Hanson. W. W. Best. E. C. Hetherington, and J. S. Satterthwaite. The Mayor and Mayoress are to be exofficio members. J
