BOWLS
ALL NEW ZEALANDERS WIN GAMES (Neto Zealand Press Association) AUCKLAND, February 6. All the New Zealand players won their games on the first day of the Empire Games bowls tournament. In the singles J. Pirrett, juq., beat L. F. Garnett (Fiji). R. Henry and E. P. Exelby beat W. Gibb and H. J. van Zyl (South Africa), and T. T. Skoglund’s four beat the South African four skipped by N. S. Walker. Fast greens and a cross wind troubled the players. The first man to send down a jack and roll a bowl was J. Pirrett. The most Dolished display of the day was that of Exelby, but Van Zyl was little inferior to °nd more unlucky than his opponent. Skoglund was impressive. On several occasions, with magnificent flashes of. play, he turned serious positions into favourable results. The South African skip played a very fine drawing game. Currer (South Africa) and Russell (New Zealand) were about the best supporting players. The best singles form was shown by A. E. Newton (Australia) in his game with G. Jacobs (South Africa), which went to 27 ends. Results:— SINGLES A. E. Newton (Australia), 25, Jacobs (South Africa) 18. J. Pirrett, jun. (New Zealand) 25, L. E. Garnett (Fiji) 20. Garnett 26. W.
