TRAMWAY STRIKE IN SYDNEY
SYDNEY, February 6. A lightning one-day strike by tramway employees yesterday paralysed services on the line to Rose Bay and other Sydney suburbs, leaving many passengers stranded in the rain. The dispute arose suddenly when, because of the wet weather, the Transport Commissioner (Mr C. Winsor) substituted a 15-minute service for the usual five-minute service on the route. All trams were flagged off the run as they passed the depot and the protesting passengers had to dismount or be driven into the sheds. The Transport, Corrimission er said he had reduced the services to save the department £6600, the sum previously spent in running a full service on wet days. The employees resumed work to-day. Burma and the Commonwealth.— The Burmese Prime Minister (Thakin Nu) said in Madras that Burma would gladly accept any financial aid offered by the Commonwealth in pursuance of the Colombo conference decisions. —London, February 5.
