PRINCESS MARGARET

ATTENDANCE AT SERVICE IN ST. PAUL’S

(N.Z. Press Association—Copyright) LONDON. February 5. Princess Margaret sat in St. Paul’s Cathedral this afternoon and heard the Archdeacon of London (the Ven. H. O. Gibbs) defend young people’s enthusiasm for films.

“We must not despise the ‘flicks’ and similar entertainment because of the easy gibe that they are merely a form of escapism,” said the Archdeacon. “We must remember that some form and degree of escape is essential for everyone. The more demands our employment makes on us, the more we must seek to escape from it at times to fit ourselves to return with renewed energy.” The service was held specially for members of the Federation of Permanent Holiday Camps. Hundreds of holiday campers attended. The chaplain to the Campers’ Federation (the Rev. J. T. Pugh) said after the service: “Princess Margaret is identifying herself with this new youth movement. The holiday camp is a new feature of our national life.”
