UNITED NATIONS DELEGATES

Chinese Nationalists’ Position

PEIPING DEMANDS REMOVAL (N.Z. Press Association—Copyright) (Rec. 9 p.m.) NEW YORK. Feb. 4. Mr Trygve Lie, Secretary-General of the United Nations, said to-day that a message had been received from the Chinese Communist Government in Peiping demanding that Chinese Nationalists should be removed from all bodies of the United Nations. The message said that Mr Chi Choting had been appointed as the Peiping representative to the United Nations Economic and Social Council, and asked when Mr Chi would be accepted to replace the Nationalist representative. The Economic ana Social Council will meet on Tuesday. Mr Lie said that the message from Peiping would be circulated to all members of the United Nations, but no further step would be taken by him. Mr Lie said he believed that a way must and would soon be found to settle the question of Chinese representation.

The “New York Herald Tribune,” in a report published to-day. said that Nationalist China yesterday told the United Nations, in a closed, meeting, that it would veto any attempt to turn over the Chinese seat in the Security Council to a delegate from Communist China.

Dr. Shushi Hsu, the alternate Chinese Nationalist, delegate to the Security Council, gave notice of Nationalist China’s intentions to the Security Council’s Committee of Experts. He said that the use of the veto would automatically pass the Chinese problem to the 59-nation General Assembly.
