DISSOLUTION OF PARLIAMENT

CAMPAIGN OPENS IN EARNEST LONDON, February 3. The King signed the proclamation dissolving the British Parliament at a meeting of the Privy Council at Sandringham to-day. The proclamation also summoned the new Parliament for March 1. Members will be sworn in on that day and the new Parliament will begin its first session on 1 March 6. From to-day the various parties which have held their election campaigns on the leash, partly because they were not sure how they stood jfit regards election expenses after Mr Herbert Morrison’s warnings, and partly because they felt that it would be difficult to maintain, with any intensity, an election campaign lasting six weeks, will launch their speeches and pamphlets upon an expectant public of which about 34,000.000 are registered voters.
