QUEUES AT EDEN PARK

BREAKDOWN OF SYSTEM (New Zealand Press Association > AUCKLAND, February 4. . The queue system broke down completely at Eden Park to-day. By the time the main gates in Sandringham road opened people were standing eight deep around the entrances and latecomers went through the gates side by side with those who had spent the night there. Others who had observed the unwritten laws of a* queue moved slowly ahead at the tail 300 yards away.

Indignant about the queue-crashers were the 2C-odd who had slept, or tried to s’eep. outside the gates. The absence of railings or any other method of marshalling the queues meant it was impossible to control the latecomers, said men who had spent the night at the gates. They had had several arguments with a queuecrasher and had complained to the police on duty, but apparently little could be clone about it. There was more disorder when the gates opened. There were six turnstiles and people rushed the first two but the other four did only moderate business. While the queue ambled toward the gates peorle who just arrived found they could walk right up to some turnstiles and enter thg grounds. By 9.45 a m. the main rush was over and from then on there was only a steady stream of arrivals.
